The 2010 Winners

The IMEX Academy Awards were presented to the some of the meeting industry's brightest talents at the IMEX 2010 Gala Dinner. The winners were: Asia Pacific - Suprabha Moleeratanond, Director, Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau, The Americas - Greg Ortale, President & CEO, Greater Houston Convention & Visitors Bureau, Europe - Nik Racic, Executive Director, Croatian Convention Bureau, Africa & the Middle East - Yussef Husseiny, Exhibitions Manager, Jordan Tourism Board.

This year's JMIC (Joint Meetings Industry Council) Unity Award was presented to Christian Mutschlechner, Director of the Vienna Convention Bureau for his outstanding contribution to the international meetings industry.

The joint IMEX- MPI Foundation Student Scholarship Award is presented to the winner of the international IMEX-MPI ‘University Challenge’ where students are judged on presentations given at various Future Leaders Forums around the world. Renea Anderson, from the Rosen College of Hospitality Management, USA, was judged an outstanding winner of this year’s award.

The IMEX Green Exhibitor Award went to the Switzerland Convention & Incentive Bureau (SCIB). The SCIB was awarded the IMEX Green Exhibitor Award 2010 in recognition of its widespread use of Swiss wood in its stand construction. The wood is a renewable resource and net remover of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. All promotional material used at IMEX was printed carbon-neutral. In addition, all Switzerland Tourism staff, including the stand builders, travelled to Frankfurt by train to reduce carbon emissions.

COP15 Logistics and CSMP Team picked up the coveted IMEX Green Meetings Gold Award in recognition for the UN Climate Change Summit COP15. With sustainability as its raison d’être, the organisation strategy for this event encompassed everything from accountability, social responsibility and stakeholder engagement to producing a lasting legacy and commitment to change.

The Silver Green Meetings Award was given to the Intel Corporation, Corporate Event Marketing for its Intel Development Forum (IDF) America event.

Tourism Toronto won the globally recognised IMEX Commitment to the Community Award. The award, was presented to Alice Au, Director of Sales, International Meetings & Events and Mark Crawford, Account Director, Corporate International & US Northeast.

The IMEX AACB (Association of Australian Convention Bureau) Vin Barron award for bureaux staff went to Deborah Lonne, Coordinator, Convention Bureau, Brisbane Marketing.

The IMEX Green Supplier Gold Award, given to the supplier who has demonstrated the best effort to minimise the environmental impact of their venue or product, was presented to Adelaide Convention Centre. The Silver award was given to Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.

New this year was the Site Master Motivator Award, this new award has been introduced to recognise a member of the industry who has shown the highest standard of excellence in creating or executing motivational events. The award went to Laurie Sprouse, President, Ultimate Ventures, a DMC Network Company, for her valiant crusade to defeat two proposed tax bills that would have put her company and many others out of business. Thanks to her hard work, now in the state of Texas, destination management companies are able to deduct the cost of service from their tax base.
