'Power' Sessions at the Corporate Responsibility Centre

The Corporate Responsibility Centre together with the Green Meeting Industry Council hosts several environmental ‘power’ sessions. These are a series of short, drop-in workshops that run throughout the day at the show. They include case studies from previous award winners and ‘how to go green’ power-sessions with advice about where and how to start, as well as information on more advanced green policies and practices.
Some highlights from IMEX 2011 include:
- Sourcing Sustainable Seafood - Some Dos and Don'ts - Roy Palmer, FAICD, CEO, Seafood Experience Australia Ltd
Managing Event Burnout – Janet Cheung and Victor Angel, Inner Sense
In the UK alone 23.4 million working days were lost last year due to work related ill health according to the Health and Safety Executive's (HSE) national statistics, and one of the main causes was work related stress. The benefits of looking after your health and your team’s health are not just financial. This session looked at how this stress can be managed.
Seafood is such a fantastic product to serve at your events but what do you need to know about sourcing sustainable seafood to ensure that you are meeting any specific CSR arrangements? What are the other issues relating to seafood sourcing that you need to know about? Attendees heard about some of the dos and don'ts.
- How to Make Your Event More Sustainable - Rebecca Saunders, Education Facilitator, Positive Impact
This interactive workshop provided delegates with an understanding of how to make your event more sustainable. Best practice examples and case studies from industry leaders were provided to understand how to create a more sustainable event.
- Ethical Manufacturing - Nick Jones, Managing Director, Nexus Collections Ltd
What constitutes ethical manufacturing? There is no internationally recognised legislation but there are organisations which offer guidance on best practice. Ethical manufacturing is essential for the stable supply of promotional goods to our industry. Factory owners must embrace ethical changes, however most are not, resulting in 10,000 factories being closed in China in recent months creating a significant supply disruption. This session offered an insight into the huge differences that exist based on Nick Jones's 15 years working and owning a factory in China.
