The deadline to apply for the 2012 award has now passed. The application form for 2013 will be here later in the year.

The Green Supplier Award has been developed by IMEX and GMIC (Green Meeting Industry Council) to recognise environmental excellence and innovation within the meetings industry.

The annual Green Supplier Award recognises a meeting supplier (e.g. hotel, convention centre, CVB etc.) that has made innovative efforts to reduce the environmental impact of their operations through planning, implementation and evaluation.

Within this category, Gold and Silver Awards are presented to well-deserving winners.

The DoubleTree Hotel Portland, Oregon, USA, was the winner of the 2011 IMEX Green Supplier Gold Award. DoubleTree Hotel Portland reduced its energy consumption by 32%. DoubleTree Hotel Portland also invests $25,000 to subsidise Portland’s unique TriMet Passport, offering employees the use of reduced rate public transportation. Since offering this programme in 1999, approximately 82,500 gallons of gas have been saved. In 2005, the hotel partnered with the City of Portland “Portland Composts!” programme and has reduced waste sent to landfill from 92% in 2004 to just 37% in 2010. The Adelaide Convention Centre was awarded the 2009 Green Supplier 'Silver' Award. Alec Gilbert of the Adelaide Convention Centre said, “A few years ago we made a strategic decision to rebrand and reinvent ourselves. One of the key values adopted was gold service, green attitude, and this philosophy has subsequently influenced the way we do business. The IMEX Award process has allowed us to review our credentials as a green supplier, benchmarking our standards against the world’s best. We are thrilled that once again our environmental initiatives have been acknowledged as outstanding and are delighted to be selected as a silver winner of the IMEX Green Supplier Award 2009.”

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts were awarded the 2008 Green Supplier 'Gold' Award. A staunch advocate of environmental stewardship within the travel and tourism industry, Fairmont was the first major hotel company in North America to include green business practices as an intrinsic part of its operations. Especially impressing the judges was the Fairmont Eco Meet programme - an environmentally friendly conferencing programme, intended to minimise harm to the environment during meetings, conferences and similar events. Developed as a "green meeting" and conference planning option, meeting planners can organise conferences and events that consider the environment, result in reduced waste, and also conserve valuable resources.
