What's New Online at IMEX 2012

IMEX App, QR Codes, Frankfurt Walking Map, Stand Presentations, Talks on the Go

Here is a taster of some of the new and updated online developments for IMEX 2012.

IMEX App

for iPhone, iPad, Android & Blackberry

Some of you may be wondering what an app is. ‘App’ is short for ‘application’, and in its simplest terms, it’s a piece of software on your mobile phone. Most of you will be using a Smartphone at IMEX (that includes your iPhone, iPad, Android and Blackberry mobile devices).

An app can be a new way of doing something on your phone that you already do on a computer (ordering books, for example). An app can also be a way of doing something completely different that you can’t do on a computer (for example using a GPS signal on your phone to locate your nearest favorite coffee shop).

The IMEX App will allow hosted buyers to access their diary, add and move appointments, access to a schedule of events at the exhibition, including ‘What’s on Now’ feature, listing all events and seminars in the next 60 minutes, save their favorite events and exhibitors, access to your favorite social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, i-Meet and Xing), exhibitor list and Frankfurt City Guide.

QR Codes

What’s this? It’s something that has started to appear more recently in printed media, outdoor advertising, and physical information points. It has a number of names: QR Code, 2D Barcode, Mobile Tagging are some of them (QR means 'Quick Response'). It’s a barcode that can be scanned using a Smartphone, directing the user to a piece of information.

A QR code is a quick way of getting information from printed material or a web page on a computer to a mobile phone. That information can include someone’s contact details, a mobile app, or more commonly, a link to a website.

To scan a QR code you will need a QR code reader on your phone. There are many of these readers available for free. Using your App Store (or equivalent), search for the term QR Reader. The QR code reader takes a picture of the barcode using your phone’s camera. The reader then opens the information stored in the barcode.

You may see QR codes popping up around IMEX 2012, including on seminar and event information boards.

Stand Presentations

Group appointments have been a mainstay of the IMEX proposition since 2003, guaranteeing not only the quality of hosted buyers, also the number of buyers on an appointment. IMEX 2012 will see the development of the new feature ‘Stand Presentations’.

Stands with hosted buyer group appointments will have the opportunity to ‘open’ the appointment to additional hosted buyers and trade visitors in the form or a Stand Presentation. Additional buyers and visitors able to locate and add the Stand Presentation to their diaries.
