German Wuppertal Institute

The German Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy, explores and develops environmental policy guidelines, strategies and instruments for business in order to promote sustainability at different levels. The main focus lies on ecology and its interrelation with the economy and society. Special emphasis is put on decoupling the use of natural resources from the increase of wealth.
Wuppertal Institute runs over 100 research projects. One of them is the project "Event-Culture and Sustainability". This project tackles the sustainable challenges of the meetings and events industry. The institute gives some practical advice on how events, conventions and meetings could be planned. The project called "resource light" will produce a virtual handbook which concentrates on realistic problem solving with meaningful, high impact outcomes. The project team is headed by senior researcher Rainer Lucas.
The Wuppertal Institute has now also collaborated with IMEX to produce the Green Exhibitor Award. The purpose of this award it to reduce the waste generated by the IMEX exhibition. Wuppertal has not only helped to produce this award but is also proud that Rainer Lucas is one of the official judges.
